During the time of the Egyptians, water fountains were used in outdoor gardens. The Persians, meanwhile, brought them indoors and placed them within enclosed courtyards in an effort to please the heavens. Today, water fountains are believed to promote serenity and comfort both indoors and outdoors.
According to the feng shui guidelines, fountains serve as ideal decors in the home or office as water is believed to bring positive energy. The sound of splashing and running water has been proven to promote a relaxing effect on people. Generally, fountains should be situated on the left side of the front door and their best positions are in the southwest, southeast, the east and the north corner of a room.
